A heavy sandstorm struck Mongolia’s Dundgobi Province earlier today (9 June). According to the meteorological agency, the wind speed reached 35 m/sec in the Deren, Gurvansaikhan and Mandalgobi soums (districts) of the province.
Known to Mongolian herders as a ‘nuulug’, this type of sandstorm usually whips across the Gobi Desert before intense rain. Based on wind speed, the sandstorm may cause damages and loss of life to man and beast.
