Earlier today (28 May), the Director of the Ulaanbaatar National Park, S.Erdenetuul was dismissed from her job following an accident that killed four children. Yesterday (27 May) at 6:00 pm, the four youngsters aged 11-15 drowned in a temporary reservoir formed by construction work in the National Park. According to police, the eldest boy drowned while trying to save his younger brother. The boys were playing in the reservoir beside the River Tuul just south east of the Marshall Bridge.
It appears that the ‘Khan Talst’ Company ignored notices by the Ulaanbaatar City Administration and professional organisations to stop operation after violation of occupational safety requirements. The company has been constructing 7.2 km of cycle ways in the National Park without licenses.
