Earlier today (14 May), 179 Mongolian nationals returned home from Istanbul on a MIAT-chartered flight. The plane touched down at 9:20 a.m. Among the passengers, there are seven elderly people, 44 people with medical conditions, 43 families with young children, 35 students and school children as well as others. According to officials, 500 Mongolians who are trapped in Turkey have requested to return home.
All of the people who have arrived on the flight were immediately placed under 21-day precautionary isolation at the Baga Bayan sanatorium and the Toyoko Inn Hotel.
Since the coronavirus outbreak began, Mongolia has evacuated nearly 5000 of its citizens from pandemic-hit countries. Despite difficulties, such as air crews having to go into quarantine along with the people they have flown home, the evacuation flights are to continue.
