Mongolia will chair the 76th session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). The session will be held next week through an online conference. The decision was informed by Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Executive Secretary of the ESCAP during a phone conversation with D.Tsogtbaatar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia earlier today (12 May).
During the phone conservation, Minister D. Tsogtbaatar gave detailed information on the COVID-19 situation in Mongolia, its impact on the country’s economy, and the Government response.
Mr. Tsogtbaatar noted that the global pandemic is creating a new situation in international relations and raised an initiative on establishing a special unit in the ESCAP so that countries can work more actively, increase the role of the World Health Organization and cooperate in case of emergency.
Previously, Kh.Olzvoi, former Deputy of Foreign Ministry chaired the 45th session of ESCAP in 1989-1990 and N.Tuya, then Foreign Minister in 1999-2000. Now 20 years later, D.Tsogtbaatar will chair the session.
