Mongolia prepares for the worst: opens emergency Covid-19 hospitals

Mongolia is opening temporary hospitals as a precautionary measure for a possible ‘worst case scenario’ Covid-19 outbreak in the country; this is part of an emergency drill entitled ‘Pandemic Cooperation and Relief’. These include a 300-bed hospital at the Buyant-Ukhaa sport complex near Ulaanbaatar’s airport, a 100-bed facility at the new Maternity Hospital in the Yarmag district of the capital and a field hospital in the National Emergency Management Agency’s Centre for Rehabilitation and Training.

Divided into three levels of protection from the infection, they are equipped with necessary medical tools and equipment to provide healthcare assistance to patients. As in other countries, the hospital includes an emergency treatment section, a disinfection area, a morgue, and on-call rooms for hospital staff.
