Another serious wildfire has broken out in the mountains which rise just beyond the southern suburbs of the Mongolian capital.
The fire started on the west side of the sacred Bogd Khaan Mountian, next to the Zaisan suburb of Ulaanbaatar yesterday (26 April). The fire was quickly extinguished by firefighters and locals. According to one source, some 2500 young people formed a human chain to extinguish the blaze before it spread any further.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested a 54-year-old guard from Baysakh Trade LLC for starting the wildfire by burning his old clothes. The man will be fined for damages under the Law on Offences.
Two-days before, there was another fire on the nearby Soyombot Mountain, which is also located in the sacred Bogd Khaan Mountain Range. A total of 18 firefighters from the Mongolian National Emergency Management Agency worked hard to extinguish the fire before its spread to the up-market Zaisan suburb of the capital.
