A fire broke out earlier today (24 April) on Soyombot Mountain located in the sacred Bogd Khaan Mountain Range, just south of Ulaanbaatar. A total of 18 firefighters from Mongolian National Emergency Management Agency have been working to extinguish the fire before its spreads to the up-market Zaisan suburb of the capital. The strong wind combined with the dry ground is speeding the fire as it encroaches on the city. Currently, the cause of fire is still unknown. NEMA has warned the public not to burn dry grasses and be extra cautious with cigarette butts.

Separately, there was another fire in the Goodoi camp site in the Sukhbaatar District of Ulaanbaatar which burned an area of over 3.5 hectares, destroying two outdoor toilets and a car.
