Wife of Mongolian truck driver tests positive for coronavirus

The wife of the of the Mongolian long-distance truck driver who tested Covid-19 positive yesterday, has also been confirmed as having coronavirus. The woman shares her husband’s profession and works as his co-driver. The two have become the 34th and 35th cases of Covid-19 in the country.

The husband and wife team departed to the Hungarian capital of Budapest through the Russian Federation and Eastern Europe on 21 February and returned home on 16 April. Upon their arrival in Mongolia, they were immediately placed in quarantine. The husband was confirmed as having the coronavirus infection yesterday followed by his wife who tested Covid-19 positive after repeated testing.

There is also concern because the wife is suspected to have met her son after arriving home. Currently, a total of 49 people have been identified as having had direct contact with the pair; they are now all under quarantine in the Selenge, Darkhan-Uul Provinces as well as the southern town of Zamyn-Uud.

To date, seven Mongolians have been discharged from hospital after having fully recovered from Covid-19.
