The National Statistics Office has reported the social and economic statistics of Mongolia since the country turned to democracy thirty years ago. Since 1990, the labour force has increased from 860.1 thousand workers in 1992 to 1 million 273.9 thousand in 2019 – and increase of 413.8 thousand people. Another important statistical group is the population outside the labour force; this has increased from 274.5 thousand in 1992 to 832.2 thousand in 2019.
However, the employment rate decreased from 71 percent in 1992 to 54.4 percent in 2019 whilst unemployment increased to 10 percent from 6.3 percent.
Before 2009, Mongolia counted the number of unemployed people from among the registered work force. Since 2019, it includes all people who do not have jobs above the age of 18.
