A serious bush fire is burning in the Bayandun Soum of Dornod Province in the far east of Mongolia. The blaze appears to started yesterday morning (15 April). A team consisting of 24 firefighters, 24 local volunteers and 13 border troops have been battling to extinguish the fire. However, according to Mongolia’s National Emergency Management Agency, the fire has spread across the border to Russia due to high 14-16 m/sec winds. A preliminary estimation, indicates that the fire has consumed between 200-500 sq. meters. Therefore, 26 firefighters from Ulaanbaatar have been helicoptered to help put it out.
