Russia confirmed 2,774 new coronavirus infections on Tuesday, bringing the country’s official number of cases to 21,102 and marking the latest one-day record in new cases. Officially, 170 people have been killed by the virus. The majority of Russia’s cases are in Moscow. Since 30 March, all of Moscow’s 12 million residents have been ordered to stay in their homes with few exceptions and police officers patrolling day and night. In order to drive in the city, a special pass needs to be obtained.
One Mongolian student who is still in the Russian capital is B.Linda, who is studying at the Stroganov State Academy of Arts and Industry for Multimedia Design. So, News.Mn contacted her to find out how she is coping under lockdown. B.Linda is the only Mongolian student in the Academy. Currently, she is staying at dormitory and studying online. According to B.Linda, during quarantines, dormitory payments were cancelled and scholarships were increased.
There are 2600 Mongolian students in Russia; over 900 of them are in Moscow, said B.Linda.
There is an increasing problem obtaining face masks and the price has increased to RUB120. Fortunately, ‘Our Few Mongolians’ project teams have been distributing masks, resin gloves and antiseptics to students studying in Russia. The teams distributed the supplies to students’ home addresses.
B.Linda told us that she collects food and other needs once in every two weeks and always wears masks, gloves and eyeglasses.
Russia cancelled all flights until 1 May. If B.Linda wants to go home, then she needs to travel the length of Siberia to Ulan-Ude by bus which would involve contact with many people. So, she prefers to stay safe at dormitory until direct flights between Russia and Mongolia can be resumed.
