Mongolia provides jobs to 4.3 thousand foreign workers from 97 foreign countries under labour contract. As of the first quarter of 2020, the number of countries increased by 6, while the number of foreign workers decreased by 613 individuals (12.4%) compared with the same period of 2019.
Regarding the gender breakdown: 3.5 thousand (81.8%) of registered foreign workers are male and 0.8 thousand (18.2%) are female.
As for nationality of foreign workers: 36.0% are from China, 8.7% are from Australia, 7.5% are from the Russian Federation, 6.2% are from South Korea, 5.5% are from the USA, 4.8% are from Vietnam, 3.9% are from South Africa, 3.8% are from the Philippines, 3.0% are from the UK, 2.8% are from Canada, and remaining 17.8% are from other countries.
Regarding the age groups of foreign workers: 16.4% is aged 45-49 years, 14.2% is 40-44, 15.0% is 35-39 and 0.3% is 20 years.
The professional breakdown is: 1.5 thousand or 36.3% percent of foreign employees in Mongolia works in the mining and quarrying sector, 979 or 22.7% in education sector, 743 or 17.2% in the wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, 255 or 5.9% in the manufacturing sector, 175 or 4.1% in transportation and storage, 158 or 3.7% in administrative and support service activities, 130 or 3.0% in construction sector and 0.3 thousand or 7.1% in other sectors.
