The famous Mongolian author L.Tudev, who was also a member of the World Literature Academy has died at the age of 85. His first book “Hello, Dear Children!” was published 50 years ago. In 2005, he was named as one of the 100 best world writers. The International Studies Institute of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences presented him the with an honourary doctorship. His works have been translated into Russian, English, Bulgarian, Czech, Hungarian, Dutch and Japanese.
L.Tudev was born into herder family in Gobi-Altai province on 9 February, 1935. He graduated from what is now the Mongolian State University of Education in 1956 and studied in Moscow in 1964-1967 as well as the National Academy of Social Science in Ulaanbaatar.
After graduating from university in Ulaanbaatar, he worked as a teacher in his home province. Soon after, L.Tudev was appointed as chief-editor at ‘Unen’ (Truth) – the newspaper of the Mongolian Communist Party in 1961 and then as editor of ‘Soyol Utga Zohiol’ (Culture Literature) in 1962. Then later studied at the Academy of Social Sciences of the USSR for three years. After returning, he worked in the ideology department of Central Commitee of the Mongolian Communist Party. Later L.Tudev was deputy director at Mongolian Writers Union in 1968, becoming director in 1974.
