Believe it or not, cricket is enjoying a sharp rise in popularity in Mongolia. Hundreds of youngsters are grabbing their bat and ball to play cricket each weekend right across the country. At a national level, the process is under way to obtain an International Cricket Council License.
In addition, a new cricket pitch is under construction in Bayankhongor Province. The pitch will double up as an ice rink in winter.
Currently, federation athletes are preparing to take part in the National Cricket Championships which will be held in June, to be followed by the International Youth Green Games to be held in September this year.
The Illawara Cricket Association (ICA) is to provide assistance and support of instructors, coaches and provide some equipment to Bayankhongor Province and involve teams and athletes of the Aimag (province) in training in Australia.
