Two MIAT planes flew today (2 April) to Seoul and Tokyo to bring back Mongolian citizens trapped there. In the operation, a total of 251 people are being evacuated from Seoul and 255 from Tokyo.
The government-chartered flight to Seoul flew at 08.40 a.m. and returned 5.00 p.m., whilst the MIAT flight to Tokyo flew at 1.00 p.m. today and to return tomorrow at 1.05 p.m. spending a day in Japan. Previously, the evacuation flight to Japan had been scheduled for 1 April, but the date was changed.
The people evacuated from Japan and South Korea – over 500 – will be placed under quarantine for 21 days upon arrival in Ulaanbaatar.
In March, Mongolia evacuated some 1000 people, from the following countries;
- 244 people from Seoul on 15 March
- 231 people from Berlin transiting through Moscow on 16 March
- 257 people from Tokyo on 16 March
- 252 people from Istanbul on 18-19 March.
