According to statistics released today (1 April), Mongolia issued fines of MNT 247.6 million and taxes of MNT 425.81 million for 210 violations of custom regulations in the first quarter of 2020. Most violations are connected with smuggling banned goods or historical items and large sums of money and precious metals.
For example, a Canadian national was arrested at the Byant-Ukhaa border crossing – located at the capital’s airport – when he tried to smuggle 31.3 grams of gold worth MNT 37.8 million from Mongolia on 3 March. The case is being investigating by police.
