UB extends closures until 30 April

The Ulaanbaatar City Administration has decided to extend the closure of sports, cultural and public services such as resorts, pubs, saunas, places of worship and education centres until 30 April. Previously, the administration had considered the possibility of opening fitness, saunas and cultural centres for limiting gatherings of 2-3 people, however, it decided not to do so due to the second weave of coronavirus returning to Asia from Europe.

When the first coronavirus case was confirmed in Mongolia, the mayor of Ulaanbaatar decided to close most enterprises operating in the capital until 16 March. According to L.Erdenechuluun, director of the Metropolitan Professional Inspection Department, a total of 4825 enterprises have been closed; these include all big malls, department stores, markets specialising on non-food items, hairdressers, beauty salons, shoe shops, photo studios, pawn-shops and car-repair centres.

Mongolia now has 12 cases of coronavirus; 11 of them are evacuated from foreign countries and the French national who was the first confirmed case with coronavirus in the country after arriving on 2 March. In other words, all of Mongolia’s reported cases are ‘imported’.
