Mongolia to conduct three charter flights to S.Korea and Japan

Mongolia will conduct three charter flights to Seoul and Tokyo in April at the request of the 4805 Mongolians who are living or studying in these countries. According to the National Emergency Commission, the government-chartered MIAT planes will fly to Japan on 2 April as well as to South Korea on 2 and 4 April. Over 2000 Mongolians living in South Korea requested to return home. Furthermore, 300 Mongolians with special needs will fly to Seoul on the outbound charters.

The returnees from the April flights will be quarantined for 21 days after arriving home.

Previously, Mongolia has evacuated some 1000 people from Japan, South Korea, Turkey and Europe. However, Turkey announced that the country will not receive any flights from 65 countries including Mongolia; Germany has taken similar measures. Mongolia can to conduct charter flight to Frankfurt, but it decided not to do so due to the high risk of coronavirus in Germany.

Mongolia reported 11 cases of coronavirus infection after evacuating its citizens from foreign countries. The  France national who arrived in Mongolia on 2 March was diagnosed coronavirus positive on 10 March, becoming first case in the COVID-19 free country.
