A French man recovers from coronavirus in Mongolia

The National Centre for Communicable Diseases (NCCD) today (25 March) its daily press conference.  As of today, Mongolia has 10 confirmed cases of coronavirus; nine Mongolian citizens evacuated from South Korea and Berlin and the French national who arrived on 2 March. The 57 year-old French man has successfully recovered from a lung infection and is expected to be discharge from hospital next week. The father of two tested positive for the novel coronavirus on March 10, becoming the first confirmed COVID-19 case in Mongolia.

Mongolia has isolated 3413 people for observation of coronavirus symptoms since January, 2020. As of today, 2083 people have been taken in for observation with 300 medical staff. Separately, the number of respiratory diseases such as seasonal flu have decreased by 2.9 percent in Mongolia due to the measures being taken for preventing coronavirus.

Mongolia considers that it has been successful in containing the first outbreak of coronavirus. The country of 3 million is now is preparing for a second wave of the covid-19 disease with 5000 hospital beds; up to 10  percent of which will be for intensive care.
