The Central Bank of Mongolia, or Mongol Bank, is preparing to sell silver bars. At the request of individuals and organisations, 1 oz and 1000-gram bars, as well as a 4kg package of balls will be sold. The silver will go on sale in April and is expected to help to meet demands of Mongolian jewelry producers.
The bank has purchased a total of 1.7 tonnes of silver since January 2020. As of 11 March, silver purchases had reached to 4.9 tonnes; this is an increased of 3.7 tonnes or 400 percent from same period in 2019.
Separately, the gold price has risen to USD 1700 globally due to the coronavirus pandemic; the highest since 2012. The effect has been to increase the sale of gold to the bank individuals or enterprises.
