A magnitude 5 earthquake was reported earlier today (3 March) near Erdenet, the third largest city in Mongolia. According to the Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics, the earthquake occurred at 3.16 p.m. and the epicenter was 6 km from the Jargalant Soum of Orkhon Province.
The tremor of the shallow earthquake was clearly felt in Erdenet causing alarm among some residents.
