As roads between the provinces and cities re-opened today at 6.00 a.m., a long queue of cars quickly formed at the road posts on the highways into the Mongolian capital, Ulaanbaatar. The National Emergency Commission (NEC) took the drastic step of closing all roads connecting provinces and major towns and cities nationwide from 23 February in order to limit the risk of the spread of coronavirus. According to officials, more than 40,000 people and 14,000 cars are expected to enter Ulaanbaatar.
During the nationwide lockdown; some people allegedly tried to enter the city faking pregnancy and using false death certificates.
Currently, over 6000 civil servants, including police officers, doctors and officials from Metropolitan Professional Inspection Department are on duty in order to prevent the coronavirus infection reaching the Mongolian capital.
