The Tsagaan Sar – or White Moon – celebration, which originated in the XIII century has been officially cancelled by decree of President Kh.Battulga in order to prevent spread of coronavirus.
Subsequently, Ulaanbaatar City Emergency Commission reported that officers would take measures prevent people congregating and to restrict public transportation during Tsagaan Sar period.
The festival of the lunar New Year, Tsagaan Sar, is normally celebrated in February depending on the Tibetan lunar calendar. This year it falls on 25-28 February.
