Mongolia is on high alert after National Emergency Commission declared a state of advanced readiness and preparation against the spread of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) infection in China and other 25 countries.
In a tense situation, many people are recklessly spreading false news than warning people. According to health officials, over 20 people are under investigation for spreading false news that has punishment of fines for MNT 2 million for individuals and MNT 20 million for organisations by law. Under the 63th resolution, approved by the Mongolian Cabinet, law enforcement bodies are responsible for fighting against the spread of false news and deleting fake pages in social media.
This comes as more than 13,000 extra cases were retrospectively confirmed following a change in the way the disease is diagnosed, bringing the official total of people infected worldwide to 63,851, of which 1,380 have died in China.
