A young politician and member of parliament from Mongolia’s ruling party is to be officially expelled from its ranks. The decision about the future of N.Nomtoibayar was taken by a review committee of Mongolian People’s Party’s (MPP) earlier today, 29 January. This came after the General Prosecutor’s Office of Mongolia asked parliament to strip MP N.Nomtoibayar of his immunity. The young lawmaker is accused on three charges, namely: giving false statement, abuse of power, for illegally giving MNT 9 billion to an enterprise when he was a minister, and disclosure of secret information regarding an investigation.
The Parliamentary Standing Sub-Committee on Immunity supported stripping N.Nomtoibayar of his immunity; this, incidentally was rejected by the Justice and State Structure Standing Committee. Nevertheless, the disgraced MP is now no longer a member of the MPP.
