Japanese Ambassador to help Mongolia prevent illegal car imports

Minister of Road and Transport Development B.Enkh-Amgalan has held a meeting with H.E. Hiroyuki Kobayashi, Japanese Ambassador to Mongolia and discussed wide range issues including establishing a database of car exports from Japan to preventing the import of crashed or stolen cars to Mongolia.

According to statistics, 30 percent of car imports in Mongolia are of vehicles which are at least 20 years old; and above old and nearly 5000 cars have been gone out of use every year.

Ambassador Kobayashi said that he will focus on establishing a plant for recycling old car batteries from hybrid or electric cars in Mongolia as well as exchanging vehicle data online.

The volume of trade has increased since Mongolia signed the economic partnership agreement with Japan in 2015; last year this doubled in comparison to 2016.
