The controversial subject of nuclear waste storage in Mongolia continues to be a hot topic in the news, despite the Government’s adamant refusal that such a plan is in the works. Our correspondent asked some MPs for their opinions on the matter.

P.Altangerel: Nothing’s been confirmed.

He said that he has not received an official statement on the matter, and said interested parties should be better informed. He also said the Government should definitively report whether or not it has held talks on the matter. He said a press conference should be held to release information.

D.Enkhbat: We should not store nuclear waste.

He said that he officially asked Prime Minister S.Batbold about it in May and was assured that the Government was not in talks on the matter of storing nuclear waste in Mongolia. If the Prime Minister gave a false reply, D.Enkhbat says he should be held accountable. D.Enkhbat is preparing to ask again because he says he has some new information. If the Government violates legislation, he says such Government should resign.

G.Bayarsaikhan: We must ask the Government.

He said that he believes the controversy is being fueled by international media. But he added that nations with nuclear reactors do face waste storage problems. He said the Government should be directly asked about the situation.
