‘Naadam’, Mongolia’s biggest annual national festival takes place on 10-13 July.
The Mongol Naadam Complex, 32 km from Ulaanbaatar, is under discussion for many years. The Mongol Naadam Complex with a modern stadium with 30 thousand seats, an archery competition range with 10 thousand seats, and a centre for the traditional sport of ankle bone throwing, is to be constructed in Khui Doloon Khudag, which is the traditional site for the annual horse races.
However, the Mongolian Government decided to a construct new stadium for Naadam the ceremonies in Ulaanbaatar – these include the spectacular opening, the traditional wrestling and the archery. This will be located on the east side of the Nisekh and Yarmag Intersections in Khan-Uul District. It will open on the eve of the 2021 Naadam Festival.
Separately, the Citizen’s Representative Khural of Ulaanbaatar decided to privatize 49 percent of current Central Stadium, capacity of 12500 seats in 2020. The decision came as the old 12500 seat Central Stadium has been suffering a big loss every year for organizing Naadam Festival.
The Mongol Naadam Complex is a local-owned company which was established in 2013. Since its establishment, an area of 12582 hectares has been allocated for the construction of the Mongol Naadam Complex. The construction of the Mongol Naadam Complex will cost nearly MNT 500 million; so far, its financing has not been approved.
