Putin discusses gas pipeline with Mongolian PM

Mongolian Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh has held a meeting with Russia’s Vladimir Putin in Sochi. This is the second meeting of the two in the last three months. At the meeting, the sides agreed to start a project to have the natural gas pipeline between Russia and China run through the territory of Mongolia.

“The gas pipeline project is to be implemented under the economic corridor programme and will make significant contributions to the social and economic development of Mongolia, Russia, and China,” the Prime Minister underlined. President Putin said there is no political obstacle to the implementation of the project.

The sides went on to finalise the details and framework of the transit pipeline plan with the signing of a memorandum.

Working groups from the two counties will now commence their economic impact analysis and feasibility studies on the project. The transit pipeline project will open up opportunities for Mongolia to take part in regional energy integration.

The matter of having the pipeline pass through Mongolia that has been under discussion for many years. Finally, it looks like it will actually be constructed.
