A conflict between teachers and the director of Ulaanbaatar’s School No 1, one of the oldest and most prestigious in the city, has been further fuelled as 70 teachers signed a petition against Deputy Director D.Tsogzolmaa. The teachers are protesting that teacher D.Bolormaa and school doctor Ch.Enknasan were fired for highlighting illegal activity in the school. Last month, D.Bolormaa reported that the food being provided by the school did not meet the required standard – as a result some children became ill. However, Deputy Director D.Tsogzolmaa blamed her for spreading false statements and dismissed her from her job.
The teachers’ petition was presented to the Ulaanbaatar Metropolitan Education Department (UMED) and the City Administration on 10 November. However, both organisations have remained strangely silent. Subsequently, Deputy Director D.Tsogzolmaa has submitted her resignation; this too has not been acknowledged.
