Mongolian Energy Minister Ts.Davaasuren has held a meeting with South Korean Energy Minister Sung Yun-mo on the sidelines of the 8th International Renewable Energy Conference (KIREC). The conference was held in Seoul on 23-25 October.
Named KIREC after the hosting country, the conference provided an opportunity for top level debate and bringing together new and different perspectives on how to accelerate renewable energy uptake.
Mongolia gets less than 5 percent of its power from renewable energy, including solar and wind. The government aims to make renewable energy use account for 20 percent by 2020 and 30 percent by 2030. According to Mongolia’s Ministry of Energy, the country has a potential wind capacity of 1,100 gigawatts.
