A Siberian black bear has attacked a herder family in Selenge Province in northern Mongolia with fatal consequences. According to various sources, a father and his son were killed by the bear. The incident happened yesterday, Thursday (3 October) in the Eruu Soum of the province.
Local police have reported that the mutilated body of the 55-year-old was found nearby the scene of the attack. However, because the eight-year-old boy was nowhere to be seen, the police officers in cooperation with environment protection officers began a search and rescue operation for the child. It has subsequently been sadly announced that the body of the boy has been discovered.
Currently, 24-hour guards are conducting patrols to prevent other attacks by the rogue bear and other wild animals in five soums of the Selenge Province.
