Mongolia successfully hosted the UN Regional Workshop on ‘Countering the Financing of Terrorism and the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction’ in Ulaanbaatar on 17-19 September.
Delegates from Nepal, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Maldives, the Philippines and Sri-Lanka as well as officials from the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and Terrorism Prevention, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1540, The UN Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) and US Middlebury Institute of International Studies also participated in the event.
During two-day event, presentations were made on the thesis of the UN on countering the financing of terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, corresponding international standards, UN Security Council resolutions and sanctions targeting Islamic State, sanctions against Islamic State, actions to combat financing of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and asset freezing were delivered at the workshop.
