Mongolia’s first ever flyover opens in UB

The largest flyover in the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar officially opened earlier today (16 September). The 477 meter four-land flyover was constructed with a soft loan from the People’s Republic of China. The flyover span has a load capacity to bear the weight of trucks carrying 100 tonnes. The construction of the flyover started two years ago. Unofficially named ‘Bridge of Transport Police’, due to the close proximity of that Ulaanbaatar landmark, the flyover is expected to decrease the burden on the ageing Peace Bridge by 40-50 percent and nearby intersections by 30 percent.

The construction of largest flyover is one of six component parts of the project. The main flyover between Olympics Street and Ikh Mongol Uls Street, passing over Narnii Zam (Sun road) and 406th railway crossing is 470-meters long, 16.5-meters wide and has four lanes. Three feeder bridges connecting the main flyover with Narnii Zam. The biggest feeder bridge and road to the south will be 637-meter long 7.5-meter wide with two lanes, while the other two will have a length of 170-meter and 270-meter and width of 7.5-meter and 8.5-meter – each with one lane.
