The Russian Knights (Russikiye Vityazi) aerobatic team will perform with Su-27 fighter aircraft at Khui Doloon Khudag near Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia. The eye-catching performance will be held on 28 August marking the 80th anniversary of the joint Russian-Mongolian Victory at Khalkhin Gol.
The Russian Knights was established on Apr 5, 1991 from the 237th Guards Proskurov Aircraft Demonstration Centre in Russian Air Force. The nation’s tope display team uses three Sukhoi Su-27 and three two-seater Su-27UB fighters, painted in blue, red, white and yellow. The team’s foreign debut was in September same year, visiting the UK’s legendary Red Arrows home base at RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire. Since then, the Russian Knights has played an important role in the skies above Moscow on Victory Day (9 May).
Khui Doloon Khudag is a large expanse of land to the west of Ulaanbaatar. It is used every July for the Naadam horse races.
