Selenge military drill: remains of 13 Red Army soldiers found

A joint Mongolian-Russian military exercise is currently underway in the Dornod Province. For first time, Russian “Mi-24’ and ‘Mi-8AMTSh’ helicopters are participating in the ‘Selenge-2019’ military drills which involves over 1500 servicemen with more than 400 pieces of military equipment. From the Russian side, Akatsiya 152mm self-propelled artillery systems, Grad multiple rocket launchers, Shilka self-propelled anti-aircraft weapons systems, T-72B3 tanks BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles are taking part in the drills.

During ‘Selenge-2019’, Mongolia and Russian army officials are conducting search for the remains of soldiers who died at the Battle of Khalkhin Gol in 1939. According to Lieutenant-General Mikhail Nosulyev, the remains of 13 Russian soldiers have been found and will be buried with full military honours during the drill.

This year, both the Russian Federation and Mongolia are marking the 80th anniversary of joint victory of Khalkin Gol, when at huge human loss they prevented the Empire of Japan from striking into Siberia.
