All the divisions of Mongolia’s National Emergency Management Agency NEMA and all the branches across the 21 provinces will be in action tomorrow. Thursday 20 June marks the 15th anniversary of the founding of the organisation. In the nationwide public event, fire-crews and members of the other NEMA departments will be explaining and promoting ‘Safety First’: how to avoid creating dangerous situations and what to do in the event of national disasters such as earthquakes. In central Ulaanbaatar, on Sukhbaatar Square, NEMA will display its equipment and fire engines; apart from talking to the public, NEMA officers will perform their daily training routine.
in June 2003, the Mongolian Parliament passed the Law on Disaster Prevention and Protection, which brought NEMA into being with a brief to protect the nation in all 21 provinces.
Since its creation, NEMA has saved a total of 16583 people and properties worth MNT 295,7 billion.
