The Nogoon Nuur (Green Lake) Public Park is located in the heart of the ger district at Denjin Hill. Once it was a quarry – then a waste dump. However, a local man called S. Ulziitogtokh has done something quite amazing: he has transformed the former rubbish tip into the Nogoon Nuur Public Park. The restoration work began in 2012; since then S. Ulziitogtokh has spent over MNT 80 million on the project.
In the summer, he offers pedal boats for children (and their parents) to use on the lake; in the winter, it is converted into an ice-skating rink. Both experiences are affordable for local families who live near the park. Since S. Ulziitogtokh began his altruistic project to help the community, over 500 trees have been planted to create a healthy, green, public space for the public, especially the ger district children.
