The long road to the World Cup 2022 is underway, with Mongolia beating Brunei 2-0 in the first qualification game for the tournament to be held in Qatar. Mongolia captain Tsedenbal Norjmaa scored with a free kick after nine minutes and Naranbold Nyam-Osor netted in the second half in Ulaanbaatar.

The opening round of qualifiers features Asia’s 12 lowest-ranked teams, with the six winners joining 34 other countries in the group stage that kicks off in September. Mongolia is ranked 187^th in the FIFA World Ranking while Brunei is seven places below at 194^th.
