The long road to the World Cup 2022 is underway, with Mongolia beating Brunei 2-0 in the first qualification game for the tournament to be held in Qatar. Mongolia captain Tsedenbal Norjmaa scored with a free kick after nine minutes and Naranbold Nyam-Osor netted in the second half in Ulaanbaatar.
The opening round of qualifiers features Asia’s 12 lowest-ranked teams, with the six winners joining 34 other countries in the group stage that kicks off in September. Mongolia is ranked 187th in the FIFA World Ranking while Brunei is seven places below at 194th.
