Silk Way Rally 2019 to cross Mongolia

The main road border crossing between Ulan-Ude, the capital of Russia’s Republic of Buryatia and Ulaanbaatar is expected to be crowded due to the large number of motorcyclists passing south on the Silk Way Rally from Russia to Mongolia. Nearly 400 athletes from 40 countries will enter with their cars and motorcycles via the Khyagt-Altanbulag Border Crossing on 9 July. Custom officials from Buryatia have been advising the public wishing to visit Mongolia to choose other days for crossing the border.

Designated as one of the main stages of the FIM Cross-Country Rally World championships, the motorcycle category Silk Way Rally 2019 will start on 6 July from Irkutsk (Russia) not far from the shores of Lake Baikal. The unique adventure, divided into ten varied and technical stages with consist of the East Siberian Stage, the crossing of MONGOLIA from North to South and the famous GOBI DESERT and its ocean of dunes; it will finish, on 16 July in Dunhuang (China). The Silk Way Rally competitors will also have the opportunity to discover Mongolian culture during NADAAM, a traditional national holiday celebrated for centuries.

During the days, from July 11 to 13, Mongols gather in a festive atmosphere throughout the country, to encourage their best athletes in the three traditional sports: horse racing, wrestling matches and archery. This will be an unforgettable event, that Silk Way Rally participants will share with the local people.
