Every year, Russia celebrates May 9 as the day the Soviet Union defeated Nazi Germany in World War II. The 74th Victory Day was marked with a huge military parade on Moscow’s Red Square. The day continued with cultural events and ended with a spectacular firework display.
For first time, a Mongolian children’s ensemble and 7 year-old singer E.Bat-Enguun were invited to perform. E.Bat-Enguun sang ‘Smuglyanka’, one of the most famous Russian songs from the 1940’s; immortalised in the 1973 film “Old Men are going to battle”, the song, meaning the “Swarthy Moldavian Girl” is a favourite in the Victory Day repertoire.
