On Tuesday a year-long national campaign called ‘Child Protector’ aimed at shielding the rights of children was launched. The announcement about the programme was made by B.Davaasambuu, head of the child protection department at the National Police Agency (NPA) made the declaration in Ulaanbaatar. Parents are called on to play an increased role in safeguarding their kids from crimes, the chief affirmed, highlighting their particular responsibilities. The national project intends to reduce crime through boosting parental supervision and attention.
According to the state prosecutors’ office, there were 298 reported incidents of child rape in 2015 and 2016; however, experts believe this is a small proportion of actual incidents of child sexual abuse due to a pervasive cultural stigma over the topic.
