The Khentii by-election – nominations submitted

Mongolia will hold a by-election in Khentii Province after the MP resigned. The election will be held on 30 June.

Earlier today, a total of nine parties, including the Democratic Party, Mongolian People’s Party, the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party and National Labour Party submitted their applications for nominations in the election. These must be confirmed by the General Election Commission before 5 May.

The previous incumbent, D.Gantulga from the Mongolian People’s Party, won his seat in the State Great Khural from the 42nd parliamentary district in June 2016. However, he was accused of raping a 25-year-old female student at her home in June 2017. D.Gantulga denied the accusation saying that everything was consensual and the rape allegation was ‘politically’ motivated. Nevertheless, he tended his resignation in 2018.
