Mongolian President holds talks with China’s Xi Jinping

Mongolian President Kh.Battulga has held talks with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in Beijing. The meeting took place on Thursday 25 April. Mr. Kh.Battulga is currently making a state visit to China to attend the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

President Xi said: “China and Mongolia should head in the correct political direction, and make comprehensive plans to promote all-round cooperation as strategic partners with mutual respect and trust, cooperative partners of mutual benefit and reciprocity, friendly partners with frequent exchanges, and partners providing mutual assistance on a multilateral level.”

He continued: “The two sides should actively promote the alignment of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and Mongolia’s Development Road Programme, achieve more tangible progress in building the China-Mongolia-Russia economic corridor, strengthen exchanges in border areas and crossings, and provide more convenience for trade and people-to-people exchanges.”

Xi also proposed to organise people-to-people and cultural events to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Mongolia this year.

In response, President Kh.Battulga said that “on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations, Mongolia is willing to work with China to map out the future direction and objectives for bilateral ties.”

“Mongolia will promote the alignment of its Development Road Programme and the BRI and jointly advance the development of the Mongolia-China-Russia economic corridor with China,” he said.
