Last week, over 20 houses and 15 hectares of land were destroyed by a forest fire next to the capital, Ulaanbaatar. The conflagration was started when a welding operation at the Goodoi camp site went wrong. Deputy UB City Mayor D.Munkhjargal visited the scene of the blaze, as senior municipal officials should when such a serious event takes place. However, she made a major goof, by taking a selfie while firefighters were battling to extinguish the forest fire behind her.

Although Ms. D.Munkhjargal looks suitably serious for the occasion, the fact that she took and uploaded the selfie has received public criticism for being an irresponsible action.

Officials from the city administration have said that D.Munkhjargal’s action must be considered as being singularly irresponsible and she needs to make a public apology.
