Currently, forest fires are raging in four soums of three Mongolian provinces, namely: the Mandal Soum of Selenge Province, the Bayan-Uul Soum of Dornod Province as well as the Khutag-Undur and Mogod Soums of Bulgan Province. Over 300 people including locals, firefighters, forest wardens and border troops with nearly 40 fire engines are fighting to extinguish the fires.
According to the National Emergency Management Agency, a total of 33 forest fires burnt 2.9 thousand hectares in 26 soums of 10 provinces in the first four months of 2019. Over 1590 people with two helicopters, 191 special vehicles, 13 motorcycles and 54 horses have been working to extinguish the fires.
At the weekend, fire broke out at the Goodoin and Shadivlan camps in the outskirts of the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar and destroyed 29 family homes and a ger.
