Former sumo wrestler gives apartment to 85-year-old Mongolian champion

Earlier today (4 April), former sumo wrestler D.Batbayar had a meeting with ‘new’ Mongolian legend Ts.Radnaa, the 85-year-old champion who has just broken the world record at the 8th World Masters Athletics Championships Indoor (WMACI). Ts.Radnaa finished first in 1:20.65, breaking the previous records in the indoor 400m. The championships were held from 24-30 March in the Polish city of Torun.

During the meeting, Kyokushuzan D.Batbayar handed Ts.Radnaa the keys to a two-room apartment in the Khan Bogd Residential Complex which is under construction in the Yarmag suburb of Ulaanbaatar. The construction of the apartment is expected to be completed this year.

D.Batbayar was the first wrestler from Mongolia to reach sumo’s top Makuuchi division. In November 2006, he suddenly announced his retirement two days into the Kyushu tournament. At the time this was thought to be because of a heart problem.
