Earlier today (3 April), the Metropolitan Professional Inspection Department released the results of inspections on enterprises which operate in the mining and mineral sector in Mongolia. During the press conference, journalists asked questions regarding the recent fatal accident at the Zaamar gold mine. Four Mongolian miners died after the mine collapsed in the central province of Tuv in late February. The open-cast gold mine is operated by the company Eco Altan Zaamar in the Zaamar soum of the province.
According to the officials, the company has compensated the families of four miners who lost their lives in the mine accident with a total of MNT 200 million. Operation of the company was suspended and the gold mine has been closed.
