Earth Hour in UB disrupted

The Earth Hour 2019, worldwide activity has been interrupted by a political sit-in protest on Sukhbaatar Square, in the heart of Ulaanbaatar. The ‘Ger District’ movement organised the protest in order to demand answers from the UB City Administration. Unfortunately, the sit-in protest coincided with the Earth Hour which had been planned to have been at Sukhaabar Square on Sunday, during which it had been planned to plunge the most famous part of the Mongolian capital into darkness.

Nevertheless, Earth Hour was not forgotten in Mongolia: 12 of the country’s provinces participated in the environmental movement and went into darkness for an hour. The activity was attended by over 6000 people. Last year, only 5 provinces took part in the Earth Hour.

Earth Hour is a worldwide movement organised by the WWF since 2007 and sees millions of people across the world switching off their lights for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 pm on a specific day towards the end of March to help fight climate change. Mongolia has been participating in the annual campaign since 2010.
