In Mongolia, ice hockey is a very popular sport; the national team recently won gold, to public delight, at the 2019 International Ice Hockey Federation Challenge Cup of Asia tournament.

Now, after negotiations with a number of countries, including the Czech Republic and Canada, the Steppe Arena indoor ice rink is currently underway with a USD 15 million budget. All land and infrastructure-related issues have been resolved, so actual construction work shall commence next month. The brand-new ice rink will be ready when Ulaanbaatar hosts the Children of Asia Games in 2020. Also, the sport will have a modern, new, world-class home

In addition, an athletes’ lodge and adjoining sports complex will also be constructed at the Steppe Arena.
